Richie Schwerdt - 2003-2004 Officer At-Large

Richie Schwerdt was the chapter's Officer At-Large during the 2003-04 chapter year, appointed to fill in the spot vacated by Past President Stephanie Abrams when she left the region. He has been a continuous member of the national AMS since 1963 and served as Secretary of the original Florida State University chapter, begun in 1963, for two years.

Richie worked at NOAA for 36 years, retiring in 2001. His last position was as the Deputy Chief of the Meteorological Services Division at NWS Central Region Headquarters. Prior to that, during the 1980's, he worked as a forecaster in Washington D.C. as well as serving as the Warning & Preparedness Meteorologist and Weather Service Evaluation Officer. During the 1970's, Richie was a research meteorologist in Washington working with tropical cyclone windfields and storm surge, publishing several NOAA Technical Reports.

Prior to that position, he was the editor of the Mariner's Weather Log. He started his career as an intern and spent three years at the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, NC.

Richie has a B.S. (1965) and M.S. (1968) in Meteorology from Florida State University and a M.S. (1982) in Public Administration from George Washington University. He is married to his wife Peggy and has three grown children.
