Joe Smith grew up in a small town in South Jersey outside of Philly, and has always enjoyed tracking snowstorms and hurricanes - a love that turned into his passion.

After graduating from high school, he decided to get his degree in meteorology at Florida State. While going to FSU Joe participated in the department's weathercasting operations, and also interned at a few television stations and the National Weather Service. He was lucky enough to be given a chance to work at WTXL (the Tallahassee ABC affiliate) as a weekend meteorologist, something that helped catapult him to his current station in Orlando.

After starting off as the weekend meteorlogist at WFTV Joe was promoted to mornings in April of 2004 - and in that position has been lucky enough to track Hurricane Charley right through Orlando. He hopes his work at WFTV will continue to help people in Central Florida during times of severe weather.

Other than the weather, Joe loves to enjoy SCUBA diving, running, swimming - basically anything outdoors - and traveling!
