The evening's guest speaker was Dr. Robert Hart of the FSU Dept. of Meteorology, speaking to the chapter about "the embarrasing mistakes and scientific laziness, meteorological and otherwise, that professors often teach their students." Highlights include:

- Only 10% of professional presentations are excellent
- Things not to include in a presentation - detailed tables, small font size, bad figures
- Always give credit if you 'steal' something off the web for a presentation.
- Using only math or no math at all is a horrible disservice when explaining scientific phenomena.
- Don't be afraid to ask "WHY?"
- "Correlation does not equal cause and effect."
- "Convection is the Achilles heel (of tropical cyclone models)."

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm with the next meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 20, 2005.

The above minutes are a true and correct reflection of the September 22, 2005 meeting.
