March 4, 2004 Executive Board Meeting

The March 4, 2004 chapter officers' meeting was the shortest of the year, lasting just over 40 minutes. President Clark Evans called the meeting to order at 5:35p; all officers were present save for Science/Education subcommittee chair Chris Bennett, who was out of town on business.

The March chapter meeting agenda took priority at the meeting. Items to be discussed at the March 18th chapter meeting include the forthcoming chapter banquet; reports from the FunStation social, ECHO outreach and Science/Education outreach programs; officer nominations and elections; a potential early April social event; and the featured presentation, to be given by Paul Duval with the Tallahassee office of the Natl. Weather Service on weather history.

Vice-President Joe Marzen updated everyone on the process of finding a speaker for the chapter banquet in April; to date, most of our optimal selections have been unavailable during that time frame. He also provided reports on the break-even point for a second distribution of chapter t-shirts, final results from the Pizza Hut fundraisers and details about the menus and prices for the chapter banquet itself.

Clark then proceeded to propose two ideas to the officers. The first involved an early April flag football game, one which, after discussion, was changed to a softball game. Joe noted that he didn't have the time to do much in planning it, so it will be somewhat of a collaborative effort. It will be held at Messer Park in Tallahassee on Saturday, April 3rd. Due to the heat and likelihood of the park being full, 11am was chosen as the optimal time for the game. The second idea involved participation in FSU's upcoming graduate student weekend during the weekend of March 19-21. Having spoken with the coordinator of the weeken, Marc Unger, the chapter was allowed to have some participation. Secretary Robert Banks proposed creating some flyers to distribute during the weekend to the prospective graduate students, an idea which was approved. The flyers will be akin to those available in Seattle during the AMS conference and will be designed by Robert.

Clark also provided a report on the ECHO clothing drive. With input from the faculty and some chapter members, it was decided to extend the clothing drive indefinitely. To date, over 150 items had been donated to ECHO with another batch of nearly that many expected over the coming weeks.

With time limited for several members, only brief information about the first two outreach events was presented by Clark by way of Chris. Richie also added some information on materials he had received from the FSU Dept. of Meteorology.

The next chapter meeting, as previously noted, will be held on March 18th at 7:15p in Rm. 353 of the Love Building. This was the last officers' meeting for the 2003-04 chapter year; the April meeting has been canceled in lieu of an officers' appreciation dinner to be held March 30th at Smokey Bones in Tallahassee.
