About the AMS Northern Nevada Local Chapter

The Northern Nevada Local Chapter was initiated in 1969.   The Chapter was formed by faculty and scientists at the Desert Research Institute (DRI, which is a research campus of the Nevada System of Higher Education) and staff of the Reno National Weather Service Forecast Office.   Participation in the Local Chapter has included many community members such as professional hydrologists and meteorologists, media weathercasters from TV and radio stations, faculty of the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR),  search & rescue volunteers, SkyWarn and other amateur radio group members, and students from the UNR/DRI cooperative graduate program in Atmospheric Sciences.

Chapter meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of every month from August to May. Visitors are always welcome. Please see the Activities & Meetings link.
