Jim Wilczak, an active AMS Member, is a research meteorologist at the Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado. He is the Team Lead for the Boundary Layer Processes and Application section. His area of specialty is the turbulent atmospheric boundary layer, with expertise in remote sensing instrumentation, flow in complex terrain, fundamental turbulence processes, air-sea interaction and air quality applications. Dr Wilczak has been awarded the United States Department of Commerce silver and bronze medals, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration outstanding scientific paper award, and he has been recognized as the NOAA Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research employee of the year. He also serves as an associate editor for Boundary-Layer Meteorology. Most recently he has worked closely with the renewable energy industry to understand the meteorological issues and challenges facing the industry, and to develop pathways forward to address these challenges. Dr Wilczak has a BA degree in physics from Kalamazoo College and MS and PhD degrees in atmospheric science from the University of Washington.
