Jim Wilczak, an AMS Member, is a research meteorologist at NOAA's Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado. He is the Team Lead for the Boundary Layer Processes and Application section. His area of specialty is the turbulent atmospheric boundary layer, with expertise in remote sensing instrumentation, flow in complex terrain, fundamental turbulence processes, air-sea interaction and air quality applications. Dr. Wilczak has been awarded the Department of Commerce silver and bronze medals, the NOAA outstanding scientific paper award, and he has been recognized as the NOAA/OAR employee of the year. He also serves as an associate editor for the journal Boundary Layer Meteorology. Most recently he has worked closely with the renewable energy industry to understand the meteorological issues and challenges facing the industry, and to develop pathways forward to address these challenges. Dr. Wilczak has degrees in the atmospheric sciences from the University of Washington.
