Joe Tribbia, an active AMS Member, and an active Fellow of the AMS, is a senior scientist and Head of the Atmospheric Modeling and Predictability Section of the Climate and Global Dynamics Division at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. Since Dr Tribbia joined NCAR in 1978, his work has focused on the numerical simulation of the atmosphere and geophysically relevant flows. He has published more than 70 research journal articles on the application of dynamical systems theory in atmospheric dynamics, the problems of atmospheric data analysis and numerical weather prediction, atmospheric predictability and the prediction of forecast reliability, and the simulation and prediction of El Nino/Southern Oscillation and decadal climate projections. Dr Tribbia has been a section head at NCAR since 1992. He has been the deputy division director of NCAR Climate and Global Dynamics Division and was the NCAR Science Advisor in 2005. He has also served on external review committees for the United States Naval Research Laboratory, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the National Science Foundation. Dr Tribbia has a BS degree (1971) in physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology and the MS (1972) and PhD (1977) degrees in atmospheric science from the University of Michigan.
