Ken Spengler, an AMS Member, a Fellow of the AMS, and an AMS Certified Consulting Meteorologist, was the first Executive Director of the American Meteorological Society in Boston, Massachusetts. Serving as Executive Director from 1946 to 1988, he was a vital force in the growth of the AMS after World War II. Under his leadership AMS membership grew fivefold to about 10,000. One of his many accomplishments was the 1958 acquisition of the historic AMS Headquarters building on Boston's Beacon Hill. More information about Dr. Spengler and the AMS under his leadership is available in an interview conducted by H. Taba, and published in the December 1987 issue of the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. Dr Spengler retired from the US Air Force Reserve with a rank of Brigadier General. He earned a BA degree in mathematics and physics from Dickinson College in 1936.
