Steve Smith, an AMS Member, is the Chief Information Officer for AccuWeather, Inc., a global media company, in State College, Pennsylvania. Mr. Smith is responsible for leading IT initiatives for development and system operations within the organization. This includes responsibility for all functions driving these areas and missions including research and development of systems and software, network management, operations and electronic security. While pursing an undergraduate degree, he became interested in AccuWeather and sought a position as a forecasting intern. In 1999, Mr. Smith moved fulltime into AccuWeather's forecasting operations department as a staff meteorologist. However, his strong interest in Information Technology combined with his passion for research and development of new products and a desire to advance to higher levels of responsibility and impact, led him to successfully pursue other positions within the company. In 2002, he was promoted to Data Acquisition Manager, and then to Director of Systems Engineering in 2004. In January 2007 he assumed his current role as CIO for the organization. Mr. Smith earned a B.S. in meteorology from The Pennsylvania State University in 1999.
