National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies,
which is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the only full-service, nonprofit, national
trade association serving the property/casualty insurance industry in the
United States and Canada.
Today, NAMIC's 1,400 member companies represent 40 percent of the industry market
share, accounting for 50 percent of the automobile/homeowners' market and 31
percent of the business insurance market.
NAMIC membership is a diverse group that includes large national companies such as
State Farm and
as well as small farm mutual companies, state and regional insurance companies,
risk retention groups, reinsurance companies, and international insurance giants.
NAMIC was established in 1895, and incorporated in 1920 in Indianapolis. It also
has a strong presence in Washington, DC, where its federal affairs office is located
just blocks from the Capitol. NAMIC's lobbyists work on Capitol Hill and in every
statehouse in the country, representing the interests of its members and the industry.
NAMIC also provides services that assist member companies, state-based trade
associations, and the industry at large through educational programs while increasing
public awareness and understanding of the principles of insurance and the many
contributions the property/casualty insurance industry makes to society.
