Kim Curry, an AMS Member, is Deputy Technical Director in the Office of the Oceanographer of the Navy in Washington, D.C. As the Deputy Technical Director, a position he has held since 2002, he is the primary assistant to the senior technical advisor to the Navy's meteorological and oceanographic (METOC) organization, and ensures that the technical elements of naval oceanography programs are adequate, realistic, and consistent with established policy. Mr. Curry previously served as the Science and Technology Officer at the Naval Pacific METOC Center in San Diego, California (1999–2002). Mr. Curry is a native of Wilmington, Delaware. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968 and advanced to Aerographer's Mate First Class prior to being commissioned through the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education Program in 1977. He has a BS degree in meteorology from the University of Utah and an MS degree in meteorology and oceanography (1985) from the Naval Postgraduate School. From 1977–1996, Mr. Curry served multiple tours with the Navy including Typhoon Duty Officer JTWC, meteorologist onboard the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69), Operations Officer at the Naval European METOC Center in Rota, Spain, and the Fleet Numerical METOC Center in Monterey, California. From 1996 to 1999, Mr. Curry was employed by Litton PRC as a contractor in direct support of the METOC Systems Program Office within the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, San Diego, California. Mr. Curry lives in Springfield, Virginia. He and his wife Lorena have two grown children Tim (CDR USN) and Michelle.
