in Huntsville, Alabama.
Mr. Baron incorporated Baron Services in early 1990 after 22 years of broadcast
meteorology experience. He is a proud graduate of the University of Tennessee.
In 2006, the National Weather Association awarded Mr. Baron its
Special Achievement Award for "leading Baron Services for over 15 years
in the development of innovative radar and media solutions, successfully
alerting operational meteorologists and the public to threats from severe
weather events and saving lives".
In 2007, Mr. Baron was presented with the NWA's distinguished Aviation
Meteorology Award, which recognized his significant contributions to aviation
meteorology, such as advances in operational forecasting and the detection
of aviation hazards. In 2009, the Mr. Baron received the AMS Award for
Outstanding Contribution to the Advance of Applied Meteorology. The award
recognized Mr. Baron's long history of innovations, which have successfully
alerted the public to threats from tornadoes and other severe weather events.
Business awards include, a commendation from the Alabama House of
Representatives based on his companies' contributions to the safety and well-being
of the general public, Entrepreneur of the Year from the Huntsville/Madison
County Chamber of Commerce (twice), and in 2008, Ernst and Young honored
Mr. Baron with the Entrepreneur Of The Year Award in the technology
category for the Southeast Region. Most recently, Mr. Baron was named
Entrepreneur of the Year by the University of Tennessee.
Mr. Baron has recently donated Alabama SAF-T-Net, a no cost, site-specific
severe weather alert system, to the residents of the state of Alabama.
This system allows anyone living in Alabama to register to receive text
messages, emails or phone calls when severe weather threatens any of the
four locations that the user chooses.
