Bob Baron, an active AMS Member, an active Fellow of the AMS, and a holder of the AMS Broadcast Seal of Approval, is President and CEO of Baron Services, Inc in Huntsville, Alabama. Mr Baron was an on-air meteorologist for 22 years. His career includes positions as Chief Meteorologist at WAAY-TV and WAFF-TV in Huntsville, Alabama as well as WFLA-TV in Tampa, Florida. Mr Baron incorporated Baron Services in 1990 after 22 years of broadcast meteorology experience. He had established a cooperative arrangement through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's technology utilization program to develop commercial applications incorporating lightning data. Following the tragic Huntsville tornado of November 1989, he refocused his company's efforts on developing new site-specific weather technologies designed for saving lives. Most recently, the American Meteorological Society acknowledged Mr Baron with the Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Advance of Applied Meteorology. The award recognized Mr Baron's long history of innovations, which have successfully alerted the public to threats from tornadoes and other severe weather events. In 2010, Mr Baron was named Fellow of the American Meteorological Society. The rank of Fellow is given to an individual for recognition of outstanding contributions to the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences, or their applications, during a substantial period of years. A highly prestigious designation, only two-tenths of one percent of AMS membership is approved as Fellow each year. Known for his sound leadership and entrepreneurial spirit, Mr Baron has been recognized numerous times for exemplary business practices. He was recognized as the 1996 Small Business Executive of the Year by the Huntsville and Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and in 1998 Baron Services received the Mass Mutual Blue Chip award for small businesses. In 2005, Mr Baron was recognized as a candidate for Inc Magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year, and in 2006 the Alabama House of Representatives awarded him a commendation based on his company's contributions to the safety and well-being of the general public. In 2007, Mr Baron was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and was also selected as a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards. In 2008, Ernst & Young honored Mr Baron with the Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2008 Award in the technology category for the Southeast Region. The award honors the most outstanding entrepreneur of a technology-based company in the states of Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. Throughout his career, Mr Baron has received some of meteorology's most coveted awards. The National Weather Association presented Mr Baron in 2006 with a Special Achievement Award for his history of innovations that have improved public safety and situational awareness during severe weather. In 2007, Mr Baron was presented with the NWA's distinguished Aviation Meteorology Award, which recognized his significant contributions to aviation meteorology, such as advances in operational forecasting and the detection of aviation hazards.
