
Joel
Widder is a senior public policy advisor with
Lewis–Burke Associates LLC,
a leading full service government relations firm specializing in advocating
for the public policy interests of institutions of higher education and other
research and educational organizations. Mr. Widder, with 25 years of experience
in the executive and legislative branches of the federal government, has
extensive knowledge and understanding of the federal research and
development agencies, the federal grant-making process, and all phases
of the federal and Congressional budget process. Prior to joining
Lewis–Burke Associates LLC in January 2003, Mr. Widder worked for the
U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee,
on budget and policy issues concerning funding for the research and education
activities of
NASA,
NSF,
EPA, and
OSTP.
Before his service with the Senate Appropriations Committee, Mr. Widder was at
NSF,
19 years. As the deputy director for legislative and public affairs at
NSF,
he developed, executed, and managed the Foundation's participation in all
phases of the Congressional budget process. Prior to joining
NSF,
in 1982, Mr. Widder worked for
USDA
and then
DoT
as an environmental planner. Mr. Widder attended graduate
school at the
SUNY
College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York.
Mr. Widder received a
BS
degree in natural resource management from the University of Maryland in
1975.
