
George
Frederick is the Strategic Development Manager for
Vaisala Measurement Systems,
a position he has held since retiring as General Manager of Vaisala's
Wind Profiler unit, where he was instrumental in the development of commercial
radar wind and temperature profilers.
Mr. Frederick serves as the first Commissioner of the
AMS
CWCE
He is an
AMS
Fellow, served as
AMS
President in 1999, and received the
AMS
Charles Franklin Brooks Award in 2003 for outstanding service as President and
for leadership in promoting economic growth across all sectors of the Society.
Mr. Frederick began his career in meteorology as a weather officer in the
USAF,
after graduating from the Air Force Academy with a
degree in engineering science, and earning an
MS
degree in meteorology at the University of Wisconsin.
He retired as the Commander of the
AWS
after 30 years in the
USAF.
Along with the
AFGWC
the
AWS
has since become the
AFWA.
During his military career, Mr. Frederick planned for the use of unmanned
aerial vehicles for weather reconnaissance, developed the roadmap for
modernization of the
AWS,
and directed planning for weather support for B-2 bombers. While on active
duty Mr. Frederick earned numerous awards including a Bronze Star and the
USAF,
Legion of Merit. (4/2008)
