
Mary
Altalo is Director of
Ocean.US,
a federal interagency office supported by 10 agencies:
NOAA,
NASA,
EPA,
DoE,
MMS,
USGS,
NSF,
USN,
USACE, and
USCG.
Dr. Altalo received her
AB
degree in environmental biology from Smith College and
her
PhD
degree in biology and oceanography from The Johns Hopkins University. She joined
Ocean.US from
CORE.
Prior to that, she served as the Chief Scientist for Enterprise Solutions at
SAIC.
She also holds a visiting fellowship in the Department of Statistics at
LSE.
Formerly Dr. Altalo was Deputy Director of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography
and Associate Vice Chancellor for Marine Science at
UCSD.
She has served as program manager for biological oceanography at
ONR and as associate program
director for biological oceanography at
NSF.
Dr. Altalo is the Vice Chair of
I-GOOS
and also serves as the Director of the
IOC
UNESCO
Business Programs for Observing Systems at
LSE. She has authored
and co-authored numerous scientific articles and technical reports as
well as outreach articles in trade journals. Dr. Altalo is a member of the
AMS
Council for 2006-2009, and is a member of the Council's
EC.
