Policy choices advance the interests of society most effectively when grounded in the best available knowledge and understanding
We need more scientists working on Capitol Hill to ensure that policy makers have ready access to the best available information. Every year the AMS/UCAR Congressional fellowship sends one member of our community to work for a member of Congress or a congressional committee. Please consider applying to the program. |
THE PROGRAM: The AMS/UCAR Congressional Science Fellowship program will permit you to spend a full year in the U.S. Congress working on science policy issues. The Fellowship term is from September 1, 2013 to August 31, 2014. Each fellow is free to choose from a wide variety of positions within Congress. She/he will spend the year on Capitol Hill with over 30 fellows from other professional societies. Click here to see more details on the role of a Congressional Science Fellow. WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in the atmospheric or related sciences, be a member of AMS (or applying), be a U.S. citizen, and be comfortable working with people from a diverse professional backgrounds and under demanding deadlines. For the Earth science community this likely includes: AGU, AGI, GSA, APS, AIP, AAAS, ACS, and in some cases the American Mathematical Society.
