Pamela Stephens is a Visiting Senior Policy Fellow with the AMS Policy Program, on leave from the National Science Foundation. While her work involves a range policy issues related to weather and climate, she is particularly interested in the role of weather and climate in water resources and management on a variety of timescales.

Biographical data: Prior to coming to AMS in January 2007, Ms. Stephens served as the Section Head for the Lower Atmosphere Research Section in the Division of Atmospheric Sciences at the National Science Foundation (NSF). Before that, she had worked as a Program Director at NSF, first in the Global Atmospheric Research Program (GARP) and then as the Program Director for Large-scale Dynamic Meteorology.

Ms. Stephens began her atmospheric sciences career working for several years in the private sector after receiving her M.S. in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma. Upon completing her B.A. in Geography at Wittenberg University, she was fortunate enough experience life as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Liberia.

Ms. Stephens is very pleased to have this opportunity to explore science and policy issues again, having spent a rewarding year as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow in 1990-1991. Ms. Stephens is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society and has served as an AMS Councilor.
