University Teaching and Research

There are over 100 universities and colleges in the United States and Canada from which to choose when it comes to employment in the pure academic world of atmospheric science. Opportunities span North America from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, to the University of Miami in Florida. There are even offshore places of employment: the University of Hawaii in Honolulu and the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. Stateside institutions of higher learning with programs in the atmospheric sciences range from large state universities to small colleges to specialized institutions.

The AMS Web site lists universities, colleges, and institutions in the United States and Canada with programs in the atmospheric sciences. The appendix also indicates the degree(s) offered by each school and under which department or program they are earned.
