CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

There are many different career paths that can be followed in atmospheric science. This section will do some trailblazing for you, but only in a very broad sense. Four categories of jobs will be highlighted: applied meteorology other than television or radio weathercasting; nonuniversity research; university teaching and research; and media weathercasting. If you'd like more detailed information on particular areas of meteorological specialization, the AMS Scientific and Technological Activities Commission has committees representing 30 different professional subdisciplines. Information on the nature of the subdisciplines represented by the committees can be found on the AMS Web site (http://www.ametsoc.org/AMS).
