Options for Using
AMS Ocean Studies Materials
Partner with the American
Meteorological Society to
teach oceanography your way!
A hallmark of AMS Ocean Studies is the flexibility of course
implementation. The course can be offered using any combination of the Ocean
Studies textbook,
Investigations Manual, and Course
Website. The course is adaptable to instructional settings ranging from
traditional lecture/lab to hybrid to totally online and can be used on a
variety of schedules, including semester/quarter, summer session, accelerated
degree, or self-paced study. Course materials are designed for easy
integration with course management systems. The most
common approaches to using the course materials are:
1. Use the full AMS Ocean Studies course
package with emphasis on current ocean data - Instructors wanting to
have their students study the ocean in near real-time may choose to use the
textbook, Investigations Manual, and Current Ocean Studies prepared
weekly on the Course Website. A
license is required for this option. Go to the
Order Class Materials page for details on having your
bookstore purchase the AMS Ocean Studies Student Package.
2. Use the Ocean Studies textbook and
Investigations Manual - Instructors wanting to prepare all materials
prior to the start of the term may choose to use the textbook and
Investigations Manual as a full course. Website material may be used as a
supplement in this approach. A license is
required for this option. Go to the Order Class
Materials page for details on having your bookstore purchase the AMS
Ocean Studies Student Package.
3. Use the Ocean Studies textbook
alone - The Ocean Studies textbook is ideally suited for
introductory oceanography lecture courses in which students are not expected to
complete the investigations series. Textbook-only users have access to a
special Internet website that will deliver the Weekly Ocean News and current
ocean products. Course instructors receive a complementary textbook and faculty
resource CD. A license is not required for this option, but please
contact us to request a faculty set of materials. Go
to the Order Class Materials page for details on
having your bookstore purchase the Ocean Studies Textbook for students.
