AMS Sealholders
Active AMS Sealholders (who received their Seal status prior to 1 January 2005) wishing to upgrade to CBM without having to meet the requirement of a degree in atmospheric sciences must apply by 1 January 2009. Sealholders are NOT required to upgrade to a CBM. Application to this program is completely voluntary. Sealholders need to pass a 100 question written examination in order to be awarded the CBM. The passing score is 75. Sealholders are not required to submit tapes for review. The AMS has hired a testing company, LaserGrade, to administer the examinations at their test centers. They have 700 test centers throughout North America. You will receive information on how to register for the exam once you apply. The fee for active AMS Sealholders is $150. This fee does not include a separate examination charge of $55 that will be paid when scheduling your exam. You may take the test up to 3 times without a waiting period. If you would like to retake the test, please contact AMS Headquarters before you re-register at LaserGrade. After a third unsuccessful attempt, there is a one-year waiting period. The $55 examination fee must be paid each time you take the test, however, there will be no additional application fee unless you fail to pass the exam after the third try. The AMS accepts checks/money orders, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express for payment of the $150 fee. If you are using a credit card, please indicate the credit card information on a separate cover sheet.
There is no sample CBM test available, however, a study guide may be found at the following URL address http://www.ametsoc.org/amscert/cbmstudyguide.html.
You may download the CBM application and mail or fax it to our office with the appropriate fee.
