First Community Summit

Discusses Steps Toward Establishment Of A North American Mesonet

The Summit began with presentations from four panelists. These presentations were intended to provide the Summit participants with background information on current efforts in the area of regional and national mesonets, the results of a workshop on this topic conducted last December, and plans for modernizing the National Cooperative Observing Network.

In the discussions following the presentations, frequent reference was made to MADIS, a data ingest system developed at the NOAA Forecast Systems Laboratory. Post-Summit, the MADIS team was invited to provide a background brief on their system. It is posted here for completeness.
