The 20th Symposium on Boundary Layers and Turbulence is sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and organized by the AMS Committee on Boundary Layer Turbulence. This conference will be held jointly with the 18th Conference on Air-Sea Interaction, which is also sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and is organized by the AMS committee on Air-Sea Interaction. The conferences will be held 9-13 July, 2012 at the Westin Copley Place in Boston, MA.

ACCOMMODATIONS

All meeting sessions for the conferences will be held on the third floor of the Westin Copley Place, 10 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA.

Attendees are responsible for making their own hotel arrangements.
A block of rooms have been reserved at the hotel for all meeting attendees at a special rate of $183 single/double plus tax. To receive the special meeting rate, attendees must request a room under the AMS block by using the Group Affiliation: AMERICAN METEOROLOGICAL SOCIETY.

Thank you in advance for booking your sleeping room at the meeting host hotel. In doing so, you’re helping AMS maintain a strong pick-up history for future hotel contract negotiations, helping to keep registration rates as low as possible.

REGISTRATION

Pre-registration. All attendees are encouraged to pre-register for the meeting. Attendees can register online until 13 July or via paper registration form by 18 June.  can be submitted by fax or mail (# and address can be found on the form).  All registrations received by 29 May will qualify for our lower, early bird rates. Any registrations received after 29 May and onsite will be subject to the higher rate. All rates are listed in the table below.

On-site registration. The AMS registration desk on the third floor of the Westin Copley Place will be open for registration on Sunday, 8 July from 5:00-7:00 p.m., and Monday-Friday during the hours of the conference.

REGISTRATION WILL NOT BE PROCESSED WITHOUT PAYMENT. Payment may be made with check, money order, purchase order, or credit card (MasterCard/VISA/American Express). Checks must be drawn on a U.S. bank and payable in U.S. dollars. Refunds (less a $25 processing fee) will be granted only for cancellations received by 29 June 2012.

The poster setup/teardown schedule for this meeting will be (Posters will remain up for the duration of the conference):

Please note AMS is not responsible for posters not taken down by the tear down time.

Wednesday Excursion: Duck Tour (additional fee)
There will NOT be a Wednesday evening banquet at the 20BLT/18Air Sea Conference.
Instead, attendees are invited to purchase a ticket (for an additional fee) and see the Boston sights aboard a Boston Duck Tour. 

Tickets will be available for purchase through the online registration system, and the paper registration forms for $30 until June 29, or until the tickets are sold out.

The tour will leave the Duck Tour drop off location, 53 Huntington Avenue, Boston, at 6:30pm on Wednesday, July 11.  Please arrive at 6:00pm to board the Duck. The tour will end at 7:50pm in the same location.

GETTING THERE

Flying to Boston
Logan International Airport is approx. 5 miles and a 15-minute drive from the Westin Copley Place.

Ground Transportation
Taxi service costs approx. $25-$30
The MBTA or “T” costs $2 from the airport:

  1. Take the shuttle bus from the terminal’s ground transportation to the Blue Line’s Airport Stop
  2. Take the Blue Line to Government Center Center
  3. Take the Green Line to Copley Station

The Westin Copley Place is within walking distance to many restaurants, shops, and areas of interest. The MBTA, or “T” is also located adjacent to the hotel, linking you to all points downtown.

Car Rental
