The 24th Conference on Severe Local Storms is sponsored by the American
Meteorological Society and organized by the AMS Committee on Severe
Local Storms. The conference will be held 27-31 October 2008 at The
Hilton DeSoto Hotel in Savannah, GA.

Abstract Deadline: Friday, 20 June
Acceptance E-mails Out and Opening of Registration: Friday, 11
July
Pre-Registration Deadline: Friday, 29 August
Hotel Reservation Deadline: Wednesday, 24 September
Manuscript Deadline: Wednesday, 22 October
Accommodations
Attendees are responsible for making their own hotel arrangements. All
meeting sessions for the conferences will be held at The Hilton DeSoto
Hotel, 15 East Liberty Street, Savannah, GA 31401. A block of rooms
have been reserved at the hotel for meeting attendees at a special rate
of $145 single/double plus tax. Government per diem rates ($104 for
Savannah) are also available to those who qualify. To receive the
special meeting rate, attendees must request a room under the AMS block.
Reservations must be made prior to Friday, 24 September and must be
accompanied by a one-night deposit. Reservations made after that date
will be on a space available basis. We urge you to book at the Hilton
DeSoto Hotel since revenue from sleeping rooms helps offset other
meeting costs and is passed down to meeting attendees in keeping
registration rates to a minimum. Please make your reservations early
since space is limited.
Directions to the Hotel from the Savannah Airport
(14 miles, 20 minute drive)
1. Take I-95 South from the Airport to I-16 East.
2. I-16 ends at the Montgomery Street Exit.
3. At the first light, take a righ on to Liberty Street.
4. The Hilton DeSoto is approximately 5 blocks down on your right at
the corner or Liberty and Bulland Streets.
Ground Transportation
Taxi (~$25) is the fastest and least expensive way to get to the hotel.
Shuttle service is also available and costs ~$30. For more information,

Self-parking at the Hilton DeSoto is $10 per day.
A car is not needed for Savannah. The Hilton DeSoto is within walking
distance of many shops, restaurants, and the lively downtown waterfront
area.
Beyond the Conference
Historic homes, trolley tours, parks, museums, horse-drawn carriage
rides, shopping, golf, and great southern food aboud! Savannah has a
lively waterfront district and can be a fun place to visit with friends
