Walter Orr Roberts Lecture
Tuesday, 13 January, 5:00–6:00 p.m.
            This lecture will be held in a session sponsored jointly by the 23rd Conference on Hydrology, 16th Conference on Satellite Meteorology and Oceanography, and 13th Symposium on Integrated Observing and Assimilation Systems for the Atmosphere, Oceans, and Land Surface (IOAS-AOLS). The lecture will be given by Soroosh Sorooshian, University of California, Irvine, California, and is entitled “Climate Variability and Hydrologic Extremes: Lessons from the Past, Understanding of the Present, and Prediction of the Future—A Personal Viewpoint.”

Bernhard Haurwitz Memorial Lecture
Wednesday, 14 January, 5:00–6:00 p.m.
            This lecture will be held in a session sponsored by the Eighth Conference on Coastal Atmospheric and Oceanic Prediction and Processes. The lecture will be given by Joseph Pedlosky, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Woods Hole, Massachusetts, and is entitled “Kelvin’s Theorem, the Tunneling of Rossby Waves, and the Circulation around Planetary Islands.”
