Johnson has been cancelled due to schedule conflicts. There are several opportunities to interview tsunami experts throughout the week. For details contact Stephanie Kenitzer.

There will be a media availability on Monday, January 11 from 11:15 - 11:45 a.m. Pacific Time to discuss the current West Coast weather pattern and "is it El Nino?" Experts available for interviews are Jim Purpura, Meteorologist in Charge of the National Weather Service Forecast Office in San Diego, and Ed O'Lenic, senior meteorologist with NOAA's Climate Prediction Center. The media availability takes place in Room 19 of the San Diego Convention Center.

The 85th Annual Meeting of the American Meteorological Society will be held at the San Diego Convention Trade Center, San Diego, California, 9—13 January 2005. More than 2,000 of the world's leading atmospheric scientists, researchers will gather to discuss a broad range of weather and climate related issues.

Press Credentials

Press registration includes a press badge that allows access to all conferences, special programs, and the exhibits. Eligibility for press registration is limited to the working press and freelance science writers with appropriate identification, and public information officers of scientific societies, educational institutions, and government agencies. A banquet ticket is not included and can be purchased for $45.

Press Room Information

The AMS will operate a press room from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10-13 January. The press room phone number is (619) 525-6203; fax (619) 525-6204. The press room is located in Room 19 of the San Diego Convention Center.

The room will be equipped with telephones, a fax machine, copier and computers with Internet access. Press releases relevant to the meeting will be available in the press room and on the AMS web site. A briefing room for interviews will also be available. Further advisories will be outline planned press briefings and special media events. Journalists attending the AMS are invited to join those attending the American Astronomical Society meeting (also in San Diego at the Town and Country Resort and Conference Center) for a popular self-treat dinner on Tuesday, January 11 at 8:00 p.m. at a fine restaurant to be announced.
