Welcome to Project ATMOSPHERE On-Line
Project ATMOSPHERE is one of the American Meteorological Society's education
programs, supported by the National Science Foundation, National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration, AMS and AMS member contributions, that promotes
studies in the atmospheric sciences at elementary, middle and secondary school
levels. It is designed to encourage teachers to use the science whose data and
products are most frequently reported to the public in classroom learning
activities across the curriculum. Its main goal is to promote interest and
literacy in science, technology, and mathematics at the precollege level.
Project ATMOSPHERE emphasizes the following:
- the training of pre-college teachers in selected atmospheric science
topics; more
- the production of instructional resource materials, and
- the dissemination and implementation of these materials through training
seminars conducted by peer trainers - pre-college teachers trained as AMS
Education Resource Agents or AERAs.
Project ATMOSPHERE also makes available for sale, carefully selected, classroom
tested material. A list of such material is available online at our
educational materials page.
